Joy’s Trip to Westminster

In Febuary 2009, we had the most marvelous opportunity to travel to New York City to compete at Westminster. We flew Midwest Airlines out of Milwaukee, WI to La Guardia, NY with Sue Burr (Maria’s mom) and family, whomade all the travel arrangements. We met other friends out there. It was great.

When some of us went sightseeing, others stayed with the dogs. A site-seeing bus agency was phenomenal and took us all over. The tour guide was great. It sounds strange probably, but it seemed so odd to see taxis everywhere. Cars were parked in special lots that had special equipment that stacked them over each other. If you wanted your car, you had to put in a request to have it brought down for you.  Getting to visit the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island was quite a process entailing the subway and ferrys.

The Westminster Kennel Club show is held at Madison Square Garden, which is located close to Times Square. During the Dog Show, the top of the Empire State Building was lit up with the club colors. Come the special day of Australian Shepherds showing, we met up with Linda Wilson and Kimber Shields of Briarbrook Aussies. They introduced us to Terri Galle who helped me out greatly by showing Joy, who immediately fell in love with her.  To top off this wonderful adventure, Joy took an Award of Merit and her sire Briarbrooks Copyright went Best of Breed.

If I am talking up the trip too much, it even then does not do the trip justice. I did not get the opportunity to go to Tiffany’s, F.A.O.Swartz, walk around Central Park much, see the zoo, or best yet a Broadway play on Broadway. Perhaps someday….
