Alt-CH,U-AG1, U-FO Briarbrooks Make Mine Gold CD, HCT, CGC
"Schyler" or "Sky"

Pedigree

Born May 22, 2001

This handsome youngster has the most fantastic loveable temperament. Sky, as he's called for short, has competed in ASCA's altered conformation program and did very well.

Sky goes Alt-BOB & his buddy, Isaac (Ch Briarbrooks Oh Happy Day CGC) goes BOB. It was an exciting day.

These are the results just published in the July/Aug Aussie Times. Sky has been shown more than that & also won. I'll have those results up as soon as we get them together. Also more pictures of this fine fellow.

If you happen to see him at a show, he'd love to meet you and shake your hand. He just loves to be petted which is probably why  he enjoys visiting  nursing homes. At home, Sky's quite the little helper. He loves to be in the middle of whatever you happen to be doing. If I put down a dish full of treats for all the dogs to share, I have to stay and make sure the rest of the pack gets something. Sky has discovered that he doesn't have to share if he can ignore the food, grab the bowl, and run off with it. Then the prize is all his.

He is very easy to work with. He has been on sheep in a Ranch Dog fun run and was fantastic first time out. Pat, his handler, on the other hand needs a LOT of work.

The July/August Aussie Times had Sky #14 in the nation in altered conformation. He has more wins than that, but there's lag time for the clubs to get the pts in & the magazine to press. By the September/October issue Sky made it up to the number 4 position and became #4 for the Australian Shepherd Alt-Ch Year End Award. You'll be able to see his photo and special mention of this in the January/February issue of the Aussie Times.

We stopped abruptly showing him in mid-summer 2003 to be able to make it to a few AKC shows for his fellow doggy friend, Isaac. Sky went to the ASCA Nationals in Wisconsin and also did well going Premier in all of the pre-shows. As soon as he got back home, training started for agility.

November brought herding opportunities. We went to visit 2 places for herding sheep & had lots of fun. Sky is very handler responsive.

2004

January  will find Sky and Pat in Decatur trying their hand/paw at Just For Fun agility. It was a lot of fun & we hope to participate again.

Casual pictures during the year:

A wonderful day to play agility. Catching his breath during a game of keep-away During a visit to a friend on a farm, Sky found the food , of course!!

More Breed wins, but Sky has also been busy in performance events & has earned 1 leg UKC AG1, 1 leg in NADAC Tunnelers, 2 legs ASCA CD, 2 legs UKC CD.

2005:

January    JFF was skipped due to travel to get a new puppy & we had hoped to participate in a Rally-O seminar, but...as we didn't know when we were getting the new pup, the entry didn't get in & it filled up earlier than they had planned. More on the newest member of the family later. We are working on obedience and when the weather warms up more agility. One of the problems of outside agility equipment living when in Illinois.

April: It has been cold & damp outside. Not much chance to practice agility, but Sky has been attending obedience class. He has also been VERY busy entertaining the new puppy & helping to set a good example for her. He thinks she is a LOT of fun.

May: 1 leg AKC CD earned.

June: Sky earns his UKC Agility 1 title at the Premier in Kalamazoo with a 199 & a 1st in division 3 and a second run for his title with a 200 and another 1st in division 3. Next we will be working on weaves to earn other titles in other venues. Hope to see you at the trials.

ASCA year end rankings have come out and Sky has placed high in Altered Champions again. He has been invited to the ASCA Premier Top 30. He ended the year at Number 10 with limited showing.

Time was also spent in agility, earning some more legs toward titles and working on those weave poles.

2006:

Sky didn't start out the year very happy. His friend, Joy, was a wild little puppy and kept greatly annoying this sophisticated gentleman. He was very patient, in spite of her orneriness. Ahhh, puppies. Joy left for a few months to go play "show dog" with her friend Kimber Shields. When she returned, well, let's put it this way...life is very boring without Joy's antics. Sky actually missed her and she had, for the most part, grown-up enough to realize that one can have fun without pulling Sky's hair out. Life is fun again.

Sky and Pat have had a busy year. In January we played agility on a league. It was LOTS of fun!!! It was thru the JFF. If you ever have a chance to try it. Go for it :)  This was like our second or third year participating. We also got some more legs in agility. Sky did go to an ASCA show with Sheri and won Alt-BOB, but mostly he was busy with Pat. We didn't compete at the ASCA Nationals in Conformation this year because one can't do everything and we were too busy with obedience and agility. Lots of agility. Sky had in the past traveled between homes, but is now permanently living here at Providence.

2007:

UKC-CD, more agility (especially JFF again in January), more herding, and some Rally. We have been working on the dumbbell, but Sky just HATES the feel of it in his mouth. We'll keep trying because the advanced obedience titles require it to be used.

Well, things do change. Joy had puppies which kept us home and busy. We did get to attend a GREAT seminar with Celeste Holmes. This year's plans just moved to 2008.

We also went tracking. Party was going to go, but at the last moment, I decided at least Sky knew basic obedience, where as all the training in the busy weekend may be more than a young puppy would want to do. Sky & I had a wonderful time. This is definiately something we will work on earning a title in.

2008:

Plans???

Last year's plans moved to this year with some tracking and herding added in. Stay tuned. The year has started out VERY well. Sky got the opportunity to go to a UKC show and compete in Altered Conformation. At all 4 shows Sky earned Altered Best in Show!!!
