This little bundle of energy came into my life in January 2005 and she doesn't just want to "try it all", but is.

Joy and Pat have been practicing to be a good show dog team. Wherever we go, people stop us to visit and find out who "Joy" is. She is personality plus. We went down to Belleville, IL in December 05 with a friend and met up with some other friends, including Joy's breeders Linda Wilson and Kimber Shields. Joy went into the ring with Kimber the second day & when Joy's class was over (she won), Joy kept trying to get back into the ring with Kimber. Joy had sooo much fun. Through a lot of thinking and praying, I decided to ask Linda and Kimber if they would show Joy for me at the AKC Nationals in April. They agreed, but said they would need her before then to work with her some. We met in Des Moines, Ia. at the end of January.

The next few months, Joy traveled a lot and won a lot with Kimber. I was on the phone a lot with Kimber hearing about Joy's wins and antics. Life was slow at home without her vibrancy.

The AKC Nationals were held at Purina Farms in St Louis, MO. I was really anxious to see my girl as I was really missing her. Joy won her class in the sweepstakes early in the week. Then came the day of Nationals for the bitches. Joy and Kimber won the open blue merle class. We were excited. Joy and Kimber went back in the ring again to see who the judge would pick for Winner's Bitch. Joy and Kimber won again and our excitement level really rose. Because dog shows are a tiered system, Joy and Kimber went back into the ring with all the finished Champions and Winner's Dog. JOY AND KIMBER WON AGAIN. Joy then was chosen BEST OF WINNERS. We got 3 big pieces of art work with Aussies painted on them and 2 HUGE ribbons. It was such an exciting day. By going WB at such a BIG show, Joy earned 5 points toward her championship. For a point of reference, it is very hard to get enough Aussies to even get 3 points. In AKC one needs 2 majors and 15 points. A major is anywhere from 3-5 points and the points are determined by how many show up at any given show.

Joy left the next day with Kimber and headed over to Oklahoma where she won Winner's Bitch and Best Opposite. The cool part was that she went Best Opposite to CH Briarbrooks Copyright who is her sire. The next weekend, Joy won again WB and again went BOS. This time she earned the final points needed to become an AKC Champion.

Summer has arrived and "winter coats" on the dogs are leaving quickly. In spite of this, Joy won a Group 1 at the UKC Premier. Sheri helped me show her. I'm just not feeling ready to show the dogs myself at such huge shows. They won a nice Purina travel cooler on wheels, a couple of great Purina dog food coupons, and a nice piece of Waterford Crystal donated by Pete and Tanya Raab. The Premier was a lot of fun. Purina even threw us a gourmet pizza party and we met some new friends, some from England.

1 weekend ASCA show and a few points toward our ASCA Championship. We haven't been to any ASCA shows since last fall.

Sheri Born helped us out by showing Joy at the ASCA Nationals for me. They took the open blue merle class. Earlier in the week we did a littler herding & Joy worked nice and smooth behind the sheep.

Joy is feeling much more enthusiastic & bouncing more than ever. Cool weather has arrived. We went to a herding trial and got the first leg of our AHBA HCT. Joy was WAY enthusiastic. Later in the month, Joy and I showed AKC twice in Springfield, IL and went BOB both times. Man, Group rings are scary in AKC. This showing was sure all new to me.

Joy and I go to school. Actually, we went to a George Alston handling clinic. It was quite informative and I'm looking forward to our next show, though none are planned for a little while.

Shortly after the October show, Joy blew her summer coat. As you can see, it wasn't back yet for a January show, but we still went BOS under Judge Carmen Battalia.

We are playing agility with Sky during the JFF, but Joy is only be doing the exhibition runs. We did an APDT Rally seminar & played with Level 1 & 2. We need to work on our sits. Actually she did her stays very well for moving downs & recalls.

We'll be taking our first agility class/seminar in February. Of course we have plans to work more on herding and performance along with an occasional conformation show. We'll probably try to get down to Purina for the International All Breed Canine Association show to get our adult championship sometime this year.

At the USASA (AKC) Nationals in March, Joy earned an Award of Merit at the USASA Nationals in the afternoon and then traveled to an ASCA show where she becomes an ASCA Champion in the evening going WB and BOW. Quite a day for such a girl. Photos soon to come. By winning the AOM, Joy also qualified to go to Crufts in England.

It is now the end of September. Not much has been going on. Joy has absolulely no hair so she won't be making it to the Springfield show in October. We really enjoyed it last year, but the puppies have been a thrill. It has been a wonderful opportunity between Linda Wilson of Briarbrook Australian Shepherds allowing us to breed to her great dog CH Briarbrooks Quicksilver, to meeting such nice people who now are owned by Joy/Ricki puppies. I'll be setting up a page so you can watch with us as they grow up. One of the puppies is staying here. My husband is really having fun playing with her. We named her "Party". A big thank you goes out to everyone for all their help to make this dream come true.

We plan on hitting a few of the big conformation shows this year, but the main concentration will be after the UKC Premier in June. That's when the fun will really begin. Performance training will be starting in earnest. Stay tuned.

Early January, Pat & Joy went to a 4 show UKC weekend. Joy took breed and Group 1 in 2 of the 4 shows. In the other 2 shows, her daughter, Maria and owner Sue Burr took the breed and went on to a Group 1.

This update just in 2/5/2008: Maria is now a UKC Champion from that first weekend out !!!
