"Joy"

This little bundle of energy came into my life earlier this year and she wants to "try it all".

Herding

Here she is meeting sheep for the first time, May 13, 2005. As always, she is VERY enthusiastic. I put her car seat-belt harness on and we used a long line, just in case of problems on call-offs.

Right away I realized that she could easily become a herding fool and asked my friend who knows about herding to take over her introductory lesson.

In herding trials the dog is not to go after the stock that leaves the group. I was very pleasantly surprised to see Joy, who had gone after the stray to look back at the group. Usually they are too concerned about the stray to even think about the group.

Job well done. Time to quit for this session.

Joy is now old enough to start competing for breed points toward her championships. She took a 5 point major in ASCA over Memorial Day weekend under Breeder Judge Susan Moorehead in Michigan.

June 25 & 25 found her at Purina Farms, MO for the IABCA show. She took Best of Breed Australian Shepherd Puppy in 2 of the 3 entered shows. Then she went on the first time for a Group 2 Puppy and the next time for a Reserve Best in Show Puppy. The IABCA breaks down the dogs by ages. The puppy group age varies depending on the breed of dog. There is also a Veteran's show and a Bred-By show. The IABCA gives written critiques on the dogs along with rankings for titles & placements. Joy obtained 3 V-1 rankings giving her a National Champion title. We could have gone on for the next show to obtain a 4th, but due to her being a puppy we didn't want to stress her out & the heat was awful. A 4th V-1 ranking makes a puppy an International Ch Puppy. Adults only have to have 3 V-1s for their International title. Some written comments about Joy were:

The weekend of July 9-10 found us back up in Michigan where Joy became a UKC Champion and points toward her Grand Championship. She earned 2 BOB, Group 2, and a Group 1.
